LAS VEGAS ENJOYS NATURAL SMILES WITH DENTURES FROM A DENTIST WITH AN ARTIST’S EYE FOR BEAUTY

False teeth have been a dental restoration for hundreds of years. Changing technology and modern procedures have made dentures look just like a natural smile. When teeth are missing, the facial muscles may sag, which causes a patient to look older. Dentures can be made to look beautifully natural, and can provide a stunning smile. Health benefits are achieved with the restoration of teeth, as the ability to eat improves.

Several types of dentures are available:

  • Conventional – a complete removable appliance is made after the teeth have been extracted and the gums and tissues have healed. This could take several months.

  • Immediate – made and inserted the same day the teeth are removed. The model is made on a prior visit, and it ensures the patient is not without their teeth during the healing process. These dentures may have to be adjusted or realigned after the mouth has healed.

  • Overdenture – fits over a small number of natural teeth or implants. Dr. Lim often recommends this to help stabilize the dentures and preserve the jawbone.

New dentures may feel odd, awkward, and loose as the muscles of the patient’s cheeks and tongue learn how to keep them in place. Irritation and soreness are common during this adjustment period, and saliva flow can increase temporarily. These issues should resolve as the mouth adapts to the denture. The dentist will schedule follow up visits to check the fit and adjust if necessary. If any problem persists, please call us.

Good oral hygiene should be maintained, and a patient should make sure to brush gum surfaces, tongue, and the roof of the mouth to stimulate circulation. The denture appliance should be cleaned every day as well, using a soft bristle toothbrush and a non-abrasive cleaner to remove plaque. Store the dentures in water to keep them from warping. Sometimes, denture adhesive may be required for extra stability. Follow instructions from the dentist and on the package.
